This was the last, unfinished effort of Vielé. Intended originally as stories told by passengers on a lightship, a sort of floating lighthouse, like a kind of Pilgrim's Progress, only the passengers' tales were finished when Vielé passed away, leaving us without the scaffolding with which he intended to string them together. The stories themselves are in his usual clever, quirky, and humorous style and a fine introduction to Vielé. They also bring with them the faint aroma of life a century ago, ranging from lavender-scented parlors of Washington Square to the wild and cutthroat west.Product details
