The Werewolf and His Boy is wonderful. Once I began reading, I could hardly put it down. In fact, I found myself annoyed when setting the book aside was necessary. Every element is just right, and all work together to truly produce genuine wonder along with a roller coaster ride of emotions. Henry and Jamey are so appealing in all their vulnerability and courage, the combination that creates true heroes. I love Dr. M., an admirable role model while, at the same time, a complex woman/witch. The taut yet vivid narrative and its beautifully modulated rhythm and pace hold the reader (me) in its suspense and powerfully created "world." Truly, everything works together beautifully, powerfully, AND its vision and the secret of the Key are so terribly important for this particular moment in American/global history. Thank you for writing The Werewolf and His Boy.

This book opens with a character describing shadows having colors and ends with having buttsex to save the world/their lives. I love that having sex to save the world has become stereotypical in this genre.
Throughout the story, the main character murders some of his coworkers (something that will never again be touched on), talks to plants (and is convinced they listen, which "annoys him"), comes to the conclusion that he is a werewolf because his teeth hurt and his body is sore (this is why critical thinking should be taught in schools), Jeb Bush is president in 2009, the main characters are 18-19 (one a college dropout) yet they have never used a computer and think that email is expensive and requires a background check which is frankly unbelievable, and the storyline is shuffled along because another character gives direction, not because the main characters choose where to go. The main character, Henry, speaks like a child or as if he is mentally disabled. All information is conveyed through dialogue and is true "because this character says so" rather than organically gaining information. It's lazy writing and, frankly, boring to read. There's so much room for slapstick humor and the author never goes with it. One of the most absurd scenes has a cop calling the two main characters "homos" and the other one barks at him about sensitivity training--in the Rust Belt. Lol.
There are places there should be suspense and there is room for interesting stuff that goes on, but this is all set aside to focus on the characters' fee-fees. The book has the internal consistency of your average conspiracy theorist.
The warning on the back is ridiculous and laughable.
I had to read this in five page segments to get through it. You can literally open to any page and find something absurd.
An enjoyable read. I appreciated that this took the werewolf and put it firmly in a fantasy story instead of straight-out horror. I thought it was an interesting tale of magic and secrets that dealt with a lot of real issues that face young gay people even today. The love story was nice, and the journey kept me turning the pages.
I did have a few quibbles. Certain characters felt very underdeveloped to me, and I never felt I truly got to know them. Also, some of the stuff with the religious fervor of Jamey's family didn't ring true. For instance, I don't know a lot of religious people in this day and age that think computers are evil. Also, I thought the ending didn't offer enough into how the world was changed because of the actions of our two heroes.
Overall, I give the book a thumbs up for being unique and engaging and a solid read.
This was a interesting take on good vs. bad. I love how we have two completely different types of men come together and fall in love. I like the struggle that Jamey goes through in accepting who he is, who he loves and finding peace and understanding with Henry. I wasn’t thrilled with Jamey when he threw his tantrum and hurt Henry’s feelings. I mean Henry didn’t make you love him, he didn’t put you in this situation for you made your own decisions and Henry is in the same boat as Jamey. For Jamey though he struggles with how he was raised and wanting his family back in his life. I didn’t like the dad of Jamey. I thought that he was sneaky in how he got Jamey home and the actions of his mom and dad once he was there is so very very wrong. I do like the showdown in the church and how Henry saves Jamey and shows him so much understanding and love. These two are so cute together.
the story is a new twist when it comes to demigods, fae, werewolves and witches. I felt for Henry because he led a quiet life until now and he accepted everything without questioning. He just took it in stride. his landlady was awesome and the twist with her boyfriend was just wow. Henry and Jamey are a great dynamic as they fight their way to protecting others and themselves while discovering themselves and each other. They work together even when Jamey is acting out and lashing out Henry is there by his side. We see two men one comfortable in his skin the other still trying to find himself come together in spectacular fashion only to find out they are a prophecy. They lose so much in the process but gain more. They gain companionship, love and understanding. They find their strengths and confidence and each other. They learn that love and acceptance of who you are is what matters. A wonderfully written stories with strong characters that have you engage in the story from the beginning. A story of acceptance and love. Of finding oneself and finding peace with who you are. I can’t wait to see what is next in adventures for these two.
